Synopsis:
"On an unforgiving, snow-swept frontier,
a group of bloodthirsty bounty hunters, led by the vicious
Loco (Klaus Kinski
- Nosferatu,
For a Few Dollars More)
prey on a band of persecuted outlaws who have taken to the
hills. As the price on each head is collected one-by-one,
only a mute gunslinger named Silence (Jean-Louis
Trintignant - The
Conformist) stands between the innocent
refugees and the greed and corruption that the bounty hunters
represent. But, in this harsh, brutal world, the lines between
right and wrong aren't always clear and good doesn't always
triumph. Featuring superb photography and a haunting score
from maestro Ennio Morricone,
director Sergio Corbucci's
(Django, Companeros) bleak, brilliant and violent vision of
an immoral, honorless west is widely considered to be among
the very best and most influential Euro-Westerns ever made."-

My oppinion:
This is Spaghetti Western at it's best!
The Great Silence is a gruesome and tragic story that's very
well transferred to film by one of the absolutely best Spaghetti
directors, Sergio Corbucci.
The snowy scenery was nice for a change. The score done by
Ennio Morricone
is also great, especially the theme song is a classic. Trintignant
does a really good performance as the mute hero and Kinski
did one of his best ever performances as the bad guy bounty
hunter. Also worth mentioning is Vonetta
McGee that did a nice job as well
and the fact that she looks hauntingly great doesn't hurt
either. The acting was good all around really. Without spoiling
it, I just have to say that the ending is one of the greatest
I've seen in a spaghetti! In short, this is one of the absolute
best movies of the spaghetti Western genre, even competing
with Sergio Leone's
classics! Pure and simple, this is essential viewing for all
fans of spaghetti westerns!
