This is a weird little Argento treat.
It's got it's up's and down's, like the music. At some points
very fitting and atmospheric, but at certain points it doesn't
fit in at all..
The story is rather weird and it fails at times, but I mostly
found it to be really surreal and pretty fun. Some scenes
work very well, like the opening scene. Other highlights were
"the maggot pool" and the monkey bit in the end.
I won't spoil the fun by saying what happens. The entire end
scene was pretty nasty and entertaining actually. Also the
insect swarms were way better then I expected them to be.
And when it comes to creating this sort of dreamlike atmosphere,
Argento delivers as always. Some of the acting is a bit on
the shabby side, but the haunting Jennifer Connelly made up
I know many consider this one to be bad, and of Argento's
lesser movies, but the shortcomings of this film mean nothing
to me. I just get totally drawn into just about every film
done by always brilliant Dario
Argento, and this one is no exception!
