" I Warned You Not To Go Out Tonight

Frank Zito (a career performance by co-writer/co-executive producer Joe Spinell of Rocky and The Godfather fame) is a deeply disturbed man, haunted by the traumas of unspeakable childhood abuse. And when these horrific memories begin to scream inside his mind, Frank prowls the seedy streets of New York City to stalk and slaughter innocent young women. Now Frank has begun a relationship with a beautiful photographer (Caroline Munro of The Spy Who Loved Me), yet his vile compulsions remain. These are the atrocities of a human monster. This is the story of a Maniac." - from DVD Pacific

My oppinion:
Maniac brought out some mixed feelings for me.. The plot is very thin, and is a bit unbelievable sometimes. Especially the affair with the photographer was difficult to swallow. Their conversation suggests they've known each other for quite some time, not only just met.. Not to mention the way they met!? The acting by Joe Spinell is very believable though! Another great thing about Maniac is the violent and gory scenes, which are very cool. Especially the "shotgun at close range" scene is brilliant!
The Anchor Bay uncut DVD has got some interesting extras, including a 51 minute documentary about the life (and death, RIP) of
Joe Spinell, and several TV-spots, radio-spots, radio interview, commentary track, and some very funny comments by critics of the movie, and more!
In conclusion, if you're a fan of the slasher genre, I'm sure you'll like Maniac, but if you're not (like me), it's worth a few bucks because of the interesting stuff on the DVD!
