Ilsa, the Wicked Warden (1977)

Directors: Jess Franco
Starring: Lina Romay

Genre: Exploitation

"The Most Wicked Ilsa Of Them All!

Dyanne Thorne is back as the sadistic ruler of a South American prison for deranged women. But when a young journalist goes undercover to find her missing sister, she learns that survival means submission to the perverse appetites of the guards, the convicts and the wicked warden herself. Soon, this jungle hellhole is aflame with the passions of the depraved…and one final act of savage revenge!

Directed by the infamous Jess Franco (Succubus, Two Undercover Angels), this legendary shocker was released in various censored versions as Greta The Torturer, Ilsa: Absolute Power and Wanda The Wicked Warden. Now completely restored from original vault materials, Ilsa The Wicked Warden is presented completely uncut in all its notoriously sleazy glory!" - from DVD Pacific

My oppinion:
Usually I don't think Jess Franco's WIP-type movies are too cruel, they're more like "innocently" cruel, if you see what I mean. His contribution to the Ilsa saga is of his cruellest in my opinion. Ilsa, the Wicked Warden is not an official part of the Ilsa series, but a rip-off to suck some more money from the Ilsa-"brand" I guess. Usually these types of movies are much worse then the originals, but this one is an exception. Franco is the perfect director for this kind of movie as he's the uncrowned king of euro sleaze. You'll get LOTS of nudity and many scenes of cruelty and depravity and Lina Romay is as beautiful as ever. Especially look out for the violent scene at the end, man is that classic! Also, the acting is surprisingly good for a Franco flick. In the end, I think The Wicked Warden is better then "Ilsa, Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks" and even though it's not as shocking as "Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS", I found it to be just as entertaining. So, if you're an exploitation or Ilsa fan, you should enjoy this one!
